HOTEL + RESTAURANT BRANDING

As the creative director of 7 Ton Co, a design and letterpess company I co-owned, we worked with McKibbon on the branding for Hotel Arras and Capella on 9. Ideating on how the branding would work with the architecture was an engaging way to connect my knowledge of craft and materials with my graphic design skills.

The bohemian nature of Asheville fills the streets with diversity in character and culture. Blend that with the wealth of natural beauty, and you can see why WNC attracts so many visitors. The Woven concept for Hotel Arras uses woven threads to reference the unique tapestry of culture in WNC. Additionally, the threads tie into the history of Arras, France as a hub for fine tapestry weaving in the Middle Ages.

Inspired by the stars, the Amalthea concept for Capella on 9 fits the rooftop view perfectly. The binary star Capella was cast into the night sky by the ancient gods to take a special place in the heavens. Nestled at the heart of the constellation Amalthea is where her story resides. Amalthea, the little goat, is named after the Greek goddess who nurtured Zeus to strength with goat's milk. It was from her horn that Zeus created the horn of plenty as a symbol of the abundance of the harvest. Amalthea’s rising evokes a curiosity in all things—inspiring adventure, abundance, and spirited revelry.

COLLATERAL

Years after collaborating on branding with McKibbon, I joined their team as Senior Designer. Working with the corporate communications team, I managed all McKibbon-branded design projects, created new branding for projects in development, and managed design and production for McKibbon’s hotels and restaurants. This included managing one designer and design requests from 100+ hotels.
